JERRY REED
Known in music circles as “The Guitar Man,” Jerry Reed has had a tremendous career as a chart-topping singer/songwriter, ace musician, and as a popular movie actor. He has written and recorded songs which have been hits in several genres, including country, pop and rock. And notably, Reed has not only written hits for his own artist career, but he has written classic hits for rock legend Elvis Presley and other artists.

Born in Atlanta, GA, Reed learned to play guitar at an early age, and he also developed his singing and songwriting. He cut his first record at age 18, and soon after his songs were covered by such stars as Gene Vincent and Brenda Lee. Reed also became known for his virtuosity as a guitarist, and in the mid-1960s he struck up a longtime collaboration and friendship with renowned guitarist, Chet Atkins. Over the years, Reed & Atkins have teamed up to write and record a number of excellent, duet instrumental albums.

It was in 1967 that Reed notched his first chart hit with “Guitar Man,” which Elvis Presley soon covered. “Guitar Man” became an instant classic for Presley, when he sang the song on his acclaimed ’68 Comeback Special on NBC-TV. Presley’s sensational performance of “Guitar Man” has since become one of the indelible, great moments in rock ‘n’ roll history. Importantly, Presley also recorded Reed’s song “U.S. Male,” which became another chart hit.

Then in 1970, Reed had a breakthrough crossover hit as an artist with “Amos Moses,” which became a pop and country smash single. Next came his biggest hit, the electrifying “When You’re Hot, You’re Hot,” which remains one of the all-time pop, country and AC classics. Reed went on to write and record many other memorable hits, such as “East Bound And Down” (from the soundtrack of the hit movie Smokey And The Bandit, which he starred in), “Lord, Mr. Ford,” “A Thing Called Love” (a hit for Johnny Cash), “The Claw,” “Ko-Ko Joe,” “The Crude Oil Blues” and “Let’s Sing Our Song.”

In addition to his many hit songs, Reed has also written many captivating instrumental songs which would be ideal for licensing in films, TV and commercials. Copies of his instrumental songs are available upon request.
